Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans Episode 1 recap/ analysis

Playing to win vs. playing to be remembered

Welcome to the Season 50 version of Screaming at the Screen, the column in which I jot down my (mostly) spontaneous thoughts as I watch each episode of Survivor. I’m unashamedly obsessed with Survivor and have been known to transcribe each episode to make sure I get player quotes right when I blast them for making the “wrong” move. I mean really, they only played this game eight months ago, why won’t they listen to me?

This is the first all-returning player season since S40: Winners at War, and this season’s cast includes three New Era winners (Dee from S45, Kyle from S48, and Savannah from S49). This season’s cast left for filming about 2 weeks after seeing Kyle crowned as the S48 winner. This season’s cast also features several players who benefitted from putting a little extra energy into their performances with the intention of crafting a memorable image for themselves. So, since some of their efforts paid off with a return appearance, let’s give them their flowers.

There’s huge incentive to being brought back to play again. Returning players get an appearance fee just for showing up. The pay scale is often higher in all-returning player seasons too. Kelley Wentworth recently posted some videos in which she says her 14th place finish in S29: San Juan del Sur brought her $10k. But she made $65k for finishing 4th in the all-returning player S31: Cambodia, which is $15k more than the 4th place money Malcolm confirmed he got as a rookie in S25: Philippines. Kelley also said she got a $30k appearance fee for S38: Edge of Extinction. Sandra, Boston Rob, Amber and Parvati all got $35k for showing up for S40: Winners at War. And of course, Tony got $2 million for winning WaW, plus an appearance fee. This season will also have a live reunion show, which traditionally has put an additional $10k in each player’s pocket.

We just finished watching Savannah and Rizo play in S49 with two very contrasting styles. Savannah was laser-focused on winning the game. She didn’t mug for the cameras or create an alter-ego for herself to entertain the audience. She wasn’t worried about being liked, even by her jurors. She had no problem alienating MC, Kristina and Sage even though she knew they could all end up on the Jury. Savannah was playing to reach the finals and win. But her closest partner Rizo took a different approach. He was all about the cameras. After he lost the fire challenge to Savannah, he told Probst “I talk about it with my friends all the time and say, ‘If Jeff Probst gives me one shot at playing Survivor, I promise you I’m gonna make a name for myself. I’m gonna be a legend.’” He even made a bad strategic move (removing Kristina instead of Sage) because he didn’t want to make Savannah mad. Rizo was playing to be remembered – perhaps to his detriment as some of his jurors grew tired of his grandstanding Tribal Council Idol bluffs. In his confessionals, he called himself “Rizgod, the man, the myth, the legend,” which by the way is the only thing this season’s cast (except Savannah) knows about him. These two playing styles are part of the inspiration for this intro.

Non-snorkelling RizGod, baby

I’d be remiss if I didn’t give some credit to frequent commenter Pedro Padro for providing the other part of the inspiration for this column – contestants (like Joe Hunter) whose playing styles turned a strong position into a weak one, or as Pedro calls it “Falling from Grace.” Thanks Pedro!

A few side notes about Savannah. She broke some Survivor trends in her victory. 1) She won the Loved Ones Reward and went on to win the game. That’s only happened six times before (Tina, Brian, Bob, Mike, Nick, and Tommy) and two of them (Nick and Tommy) won the Loved Ones Reward with a partner. Savannah is the first New Era winner to also win the Loved Ones Reward. 2) Savannah is the first to play in back-to-back seasons after winning their rookie season. No other back-to-back player has won either season. 3) Savannah (and Dee and Kyle) is also trying to be only the second player to win Survivor in their first two tries. Queen Sandra stands alone in that department. And finally, 4) Savannah enjoyed a Margarita during the game and still won the million. In a S49 pre-season interview, Alex said his family told him not to drink a Margarita because nobody who’d done that had gone on to win the million. I haven’t done the research on this, but if that was true, Savannah busted that myth too.

Margarita curse drained

But Savannah has a tough road. While these players might not know she won S49, they’ve got a pretty good idea. Many of them noticed there is a winner (Dee and Kyle) on two of the tribes, so it’s not a stretch to believe they suspect Savannah won since Rizo is on the same tribe as Kyle. Their preseason interviews revealed they know a lot about Savannah. Cirie mentioned Savannah tied the women’s Immunity record, and Joe said, “She’s got winner calves.” And in Mike Bloom’s preseason “Friend or Foe” query, a whopping 14 cast members listed Savannah as a “foe,” leading the pack. Dee and Rizo had 13 each. Kyle had 11. Nobody, including Rizo, listed Savannah as a “friend.” She’s got a lot of work to do.

Here’s a chronological recap of Survivor players who played to be remembered more than to win the game, and how it helped or hurt their chances.

S1: Borneo – Sue Hawk “Rats and Snakes.” I don’t believe Sue was trying to craft a media persona for herself the entire season. Most of the S1 players had no idea if the show they were filming was even gonna air. But when Sue got voted out to a 4th place finish, she was absolutely using her solo camera time to let the world know what she thought of eventual runner-up Kelly Wiglesworth at Final Tribal Council. Her efforts, whether intentional or not, earned her a 2nd appearance in S8 Survivor All-Stars.

S7: Pearl Islands – Rupert Boneham “Stealing Shoes/Who voted for me?” Without a doubt, part of Rupert’s inspiration was to make himself famous. He has played Survivor four times (S7: Pearl Islands, S8: All-Stars, S20: Heroes vs. Villains & S27: Blood vs. Water). For a while, Rupert was the most popular Survivor player of all time. But it all started in Pearl Islands when Rupert embraced the pirate theme of the season and stole the opposing tribe’s shoes to barter for supplies for his tribe. He later threw a tantrum on day 18 after he received the first vote against him at Tribal Council. Several of those who’ve played with Rupert have talked about how his behavior would suddenly change whenever he knew the cameras were rolling.

Rupert steals shoes

S12: Panama – Pilot Terry Deitz “Did I mention I was a Fighter Pilot?” Terry mentioned that a few times. A few HUNDRED times. I’m guessing he wanted to be perceived as a hero much like Fireman Tom from S10: Palau. As the season progressed, Terry got more and more frustrated that the merge players, all but one of whom were at least 10 years younger than he was, didn’t revere him as much as he thought they should. So, he made a point of reminding them who he was ... which got them more annoyed with him. This is part of the reason he was the #1 target most of the season.

S13: Cook Islands – Parvati Shallow “Aren’t I a great flirt?” Parvati is a Survivor legend, who is best known for her performances in S16: Micronesia and S20: Heroes vs. Villains. But she was certainly trying to popularize herself in her rookie season. Parvati wasn’t shy about trying to manipulate and flirt with the men as a means of keeping herself safe. She even got naked in a hot tub with Yul and Ozzy during a Reward trip. Her antics earned a second appearance three seasons later, but didn’t do much to improve her chances of winning in Cook Islands. She never once convinced any of the men to vote how she wanted them to – something that continued in her subsequent appearances (especially with Russell). She actually lost Heroes vs. Villains because she appeared to be TOO connected to Russell, something she was unable to convincingly deny.

S15: China & S16: Micronesia – Amanda Kimmel “You made me look bad in front of the Jury.” Amanda wasn’t as concerned with crafting a positive media image for herself as she was about preventing others from making her look bad. When she unintentionally admitted she’d lied to Denise at the China final 4 Tribal Council, Todd’s reaction was to say Amanda had just “burned” Denise. After returning to camp, Amanda went off on Todd, accusing him of using her mistake to embarrass her. While she wasn’t directly playing to the cameras, she was definitely aware a national TV audience could see her as a mean-spirited liar. She handled the situation badly, so badly that she repeated her mistake the next season when she accused Cirie of doing the same thing.

S17: Gabon – Sugar Kiper “Everyone should feel bad for me.” Sugar was an actress with a few TV and movie credits on her résumé. She saw Survivor as a great way to augment her career. She told the cast her father had passed away shortly after filming on Gabon began. Her constant tears and indecisive flip-flopping certainly did more to annoy her tribemates than to get acting jobs. She established herself as a goat early on, but her effort earned her a second appearance on S20: Heroes vs Villains, where she was booted first overall by players who didn’t want to deal with her drama – whether it was real or manufactured.

Crying Sugar

S18: Tocantins – Coach Wade “I’m gonna change the game.” Coach set a very clear agenda because he was frustrated with seeing Survivor winners who didn’t play with the “strength, honor and integrity” he valued. So, he spoke of those qualities ad nauseum – in and out of his confessionals. Ironically, his penchant for lying (and refusing to admit he was lying) actually cost him a win in his third appearance, in S23: South Pacific.

S19: Samoa & S20: Heroes vs. Villains – Russell Hantz “I’m the best player of all tiiiiiime.” Russell definitely wanted to win Survivor, but I think it was more important to him to become famous for playing Survivor. He regularly made a show of flaunting his Idols at Tribal Council (does that sound familiar, Rizo?). In Samoa he showed his Idol to everyone then bragged that he’d keep it as a souvenir. In HvV he saved Parvati with one as part of his plan to blindside Tyson at final 15. That move made a huge impression on the equally camera-hungry Parvati who copied and expanded on Russell’s move at the merge final 10 Tribal Council, handing Idols to Jerri and Sandra. Russell and Parvati were alliance partners but competed against each other for camera time. They ultimately went down on the same ship, losing to Sandra, who was playing to win.

Russell, about to play his idol for Parvati

S22: Redemption Island – Phillip Sheppard “Rob’s gonna win, but I’m coming back.” Phillip was driven to win Survivor ... for about a day and a half. Initially he wanted to remove Boston Rob first. But once he realized his tribemates were blindly obeying Boston Rob’s every word, and the camera crew was filming his every move, Phillip set a new agenda of using Rob to carry him to the end where he could cash in the second or third place money. Phillip pledged loyalty to Rob, then turned himself into the biggest goat in Survivor history. He annoyed everyone in the game so effectively, he got invited back to play in S26: Caramoan so he could do it again. He conveniently released a Spy book the week Caramoan premiered. During the game, he gave everyone secret agent nicknames.

FTC with feathered Phillip

S24: One World – Bill Posley “I’m A Standup Comic.” Survivor has had a ton of actors, singers and models on the show trying to enhance their careers, but Bill appeared to be trying to get as many of his jokes into the final edit as possible. He even turned against his initial alliance and helped boot Matt Quinlan first from his tribe when he found out he was the backup option. But he also thought the men would remove the annoying Colton over him when he agreed to give up Immunity. They removed him instead and kept the finals goat.

S27: Blood vs. Water – Colton Cumbie “I’m not a selfish jerk.” After playing in One World, Colton saw how hated he’d become by most of the audience for his ignorant, racist comments. He pleaded with Probst to give him a chance to repair his image. He got his chance and promptly reinforced it by starting more pointless fights and ultimately quitting a second time as soon as the game got difficult.

S31: Cambodia – Abi-Maria Gomes “No, I was really acting the first time.” In her rookie season (S25: Philippines) she was an absolute terror – both to her opponents and her alliance partners when she’d carelessly and unintentionally expose her alliances’ strategic plans. She got into many fights, too. After that season aired and she’d become popular with fans, Abi-Maria tried to claim, “I was only acting like a villain.” When fans voted her in to play in S31: Cambodia, she initially tried to play nice, but the real Abi-Maria returned. In no time, she was burning bridges and unintentionally selling out her allies again. She got voted out both times primarily because others were so sick of her they didn’t want to carry the ultimate goat any further. They’d rather take their chances against more competent players.

S34: Game Changers – Brad Culpepper “I’m not a sexist ass.” Brad’s first season in S27: Blood vs. Water was a disaster. He saw Candice Cody flip him off and Marisa Peterson yell “Fuck you, Brad Culpepper!” He faced accusations of being a sexist, controlling ass. He was on the list of those who fans could vote in to play in Cambodia but didn’t get the votes. So, when Probst inserted him into the Game Changers cast, Brad was in full image rehab mode. He was VERY nice to the women and hung decorations around the shelter. He even had Cirie and Andrea commenting about “the new Brad.” But he couldn’t keep up the act and got into nasty fights with eventual jurors Michaela and Tai deep into the merge. He tied the Immunity Challenge record with 5 wins, but his bad social play down the stretch killed his once-promising chances of winning, and he lost to Sarah.

Designing Brad

Survivor 41 - Shantel Smith “I have a Shanthem.” Shantel came in with a six-note anthem she called a “Shanthem,” which she’d hum to herself when crafting her strategic plans. There is zero doubt her desire to make an impression on the audience was at least as powerful as her desire to win. She got taken out when her partner Ricard realized her social connections were overshadowing him and he couldn’t beat her. There was no Shanthem when her torch was snuffed.

Survivor 44 - Danny Massa “I can do somersaults.” Much like Pilot Terry, Coach and a few others, Danny preached the need to “play with strength, honesty and integrity.” Like his predecessors, he didn’t exactly practice what he preached, but he made sure the camera crew filmed as many of his flips and somersaults as possible. He even did them while on solo Idol hunts.

Survivor 46 - Q Burdette “I have catch phrases.” Q came into S46 armed with catch phrases (“Big mistake” …“You can cancel Christmas”), and delivered them with so much conviction, I was certain he was the 2nd coming of Phillip Sheppard and was playing to get invited back. He didn’t care about winning. He also entertained his tribemates with a game of Hide and Seek, and his “invention” of the “Q-Skirt,” but he also confused them by asking them to vote him out at least twice. Some of them agreed to buy his Q-Skirt. Then they voted him out. But he achieved his goal and is back for this season.

Survivor 47 - Rome Cooney “I want your job Mr. Probst.” Rome was an online gaming commentator, so he was very used to running his mouth on camera. He shamelessly went on solo Idol hunts instead of helping build camp, then obnoxiously followed Sol when they thought a new Idol was available. He selfishly ate fish in front of starving Aysha and let some fall out of his mouth onto her shoulder. He made it to the merge but just as sloppily tried to manipulate players into turning against each other with methods most of them easily saw through. His big moment came at the final 13 Tribal Council when he accepted Probst’s invitation to sit on his stool and explain why being one of the Amulet Advantage holders was a bad move. To his credit, his explanation was entertaining and spot-on accurate. But it wasn’t good enough to keep him in the game. He was voted out that night, then missed the cut for S50.

Rome being Probst

Survivor 48 - Joe Hunter “You can play without lying.” Like his Alpha male predecessors Pilot Terry, Coach, and Danny Massa, Joe was aggressive in preaching his “play with honesty” mantra. But unlike those predecessors, I think Joe actually meant it. He seemed sincerely offended and surprised when some of his castmates accused him of not keeping his word. He was equally dumbfounded when they explained why they felt that way. He was shaken to realize his castmates didn’t perceive him the way he was perceiving himself. He found out the hard way when his jurors – some of whom were trying to vote him out as he was certain to win if he got to the end – suddenly decided he was probably the easiest to beat of those in the final 6 (or as Pedro puts it “fell from grace”). But Joe’s efforts earned him a chance to try it again.

This should be an exciting season, even if I’m not thrilled about all the celebrity intervention we’ll be seeing. I’m 100% certain we’re gonna see a lot of camera-mugging antics from Q, Rizo, Angelina and Coach. How will this cast react to them? Let’s find out.

Oh, and by the way, in Mike Bloom’s “Friend or Foe” query, Jenna, Cirie and Ozzy tied with 15 castmates listing them as a “Friend.” Coach and Aubry tied with 14.

And away we go…

I say it will take five minutes (the amount of time for them to get to their starting mats) for someone to say they think Savannah won S49 (especially if they saw Jerri’s videos complaining about getting cut at the 11th hour).

Wow, I’m surprised they gave Stacey Stillman even two seconds of screen time. Maybe they’re commemorating the first Survivor lawsuit.

Cirie got a pretty long quote in the opening sequence. Is that a good omen or a bad one?

Hmm…they copied the eye-opening sequence from the series LOST with Jenna. I loved LOST.

Eyes closed Jenna

Eyes open Jenna

Probst is talking about how they wanted to represent every type of player. In pregame, Christian mapped it out perfectly, calling it the “Theory of threes.” He was guessing about Rizo and Savannah, but I think he got it down pretty good.

Christian’s theory of threes:

Three Alpha Jocks – Joe H. Ozzy & Jonathan, Chrissy, Tiffany & Stephenie

Three Normals (Favorites to win) – Charlie, Colby & Kyle F., Dee, Cirie & Genevieve

Three Confessional Characters – Christian, Devens, Mike, Aubry, Emily & Kamilla

Three Drama Providers – Coach, Q & Rizo, Angelina, Jenna L., Savannah

Cast, marooning

Right off the bat, Probst reminds everyone of how Devens found a bunch of Idols the first time around.

Seeing Ozzy and Kamilla crying when Cirie tells her story makes me think she’s making a deep run again. What could someone like Tiffany or Jonathan say to follow that?

Ozzy crying

This tribe selection process looks pretty random, but there’s still something suspicious about it. How could so many pairs who played together before be so “randomly” separated?

No rice and no supplies? This season is starting off on a crappy note already. Starving players lay around camp talking about how hungry they are. Well-fed players look for Idols, plot against each other, and get caught plotting against each other.

Stephenie is the first one to dig under the log. So much for sandbagging her challenge beast reputation.

This season is 18 minutes old, and we’ve already had three butt shots from Savannah. Are they getting them in before she gets booted first overall?

Savannah running

Vatu wins their flint. That’s good for them, but a big part of me wants them to lose just to see the meltdowns between Q and Stephenie.

Coach vs Ozzy vs Q battling for supplies. Normally I’d say this was a bad move for all of them because they miss out on a chance to join an early alliance. But that’s not as big a factor in all-returning player seasons because they all do so much pregaming.

Rizo’s “annoying” moments get put in the spotlight on day 1. That’s clearly a bad sign.

The Kalo tribe got that shelter built pretty quickly. Maybe this shot is from day 3 instead of day 1.

Kalo, shelter

Savannah says she’s not gonna tell anyone she won four Immunity Challenges, but Cirie already mentioned that in pregame.

Wow, Jenna is throwing out names on Day 1, targeting Cirie. Doesn’t she know that even if it works, everyone else will know she’s the most aggressive player who’ll do the same thing to them?

Coach says Ozzy cost him a million dollars? I don’t think so. Five of his S23: South Pacific jurors said if he’d only admitted he lied he’d have won. Coach couldn’t do it.

Ozzy’s trademark arrogance rears its ugly head on day 1, saying in confessional, “I’ve done every part of this challenge. I got it.” Even if he wins it, He’s still gonna piss people off for bragging about it.

Props to Coach for outsmarting Ozzy. Now Ozzy is exhausted, and at a disadvantage for the next part against Q.

Coach snags the key

Oh, they get stuck on Exile island together? Now on top of losing the supplies, they get to return to everyone thinking they’ve formed an alliance. I say it all the time. Don’t get on the boat. Disregard that earlier paragraph.

Then again, Ozzy losing early could be good for him. If he appears to be beatable, people might be less likely to want him gone at the merge.

Charlie wears Coach’s toe ring. I wouldn’t touch that thing, but Coach and Charlie have history. Both are good friends with Ben from S46.

Shocker! Chrissy is targeting one of the women first. Some things never change.

To no surprise, Jenna’s aggressive play is already getting around the tribe. Christian outs her to Devens.

Kirk and Spock

So far, everyone looks like they’re doing a great job of saying “yes” to anyone who pitches a partnership, whether they mean it or not…

…except Aubry, who is clearly hesitant about working with Genevieve. Come on, Aubry, what are you thinking?

Aubry and Genevieve

One guy loses his vote, and one guy gets an Extra Vote. Ozzy talks Q into giving up his vote? I can’t resist ... “BIG MISTAKE, Q!”

And then he tells Kyle he lost his vote? BIG MISTAKE, Q!

Props to Ozzy for knowing he needs a strong strategic player with him. Cirie is an obvious choice, but he should also get with Christian.

Rizo starts off with the “goofball kid” act again, and he’s still talking about being remembered. Nothing has changed with him either, but I didn’t expect it to, since he only had about a week and a half off between seasons.

Tiffany takes aim at Chrissy. Why am I not surprised Chrissy hasn’t spoken to Tiffany yet?

Tiffany and Kamilla

So far, I’m loving this episode, but what’s not to love when you have all-returning players? We already know them pretty well. The learning curve from an all-rookie season is non-existent.

We’ve seen every element of this Immunity Challenge before. Normally, I’d complain about not getting something new, but in an all-returning player season, sometimes it’s fun to see if the tribe listens to someone who has run the challenge before. Just the same, you probably don’t want to get put on the puzzle at the end.

Q, Charlie and Ozzy take the coconut-tossing spotlight roles.

Aubry, Cirie and coach take the monkey’s paw spotlight role. I thought for sure Aubry would be on the puzzle.

Cirie, monkey's paw

Kamilla & Chrissy resume their puzzle master roles.

Oh, that would suck if the first boot was a medevac.

Kyle getting checked by Medical

Angelina and Genevieve work the puzzle, as do Emily and Christian.

This one is a blowout. I wonder if Christian was sandbagging his puzzle skills? In his rookie season, he got labeled the “puzzle guy” on day 1 and never recovered.

Kalo and their winning puzzle

Will Jenna’s overplaying bounce back on her? Will Cirie pay the price for the challenge? I still think Savannah is doomed.

Ok, this is clearly a “feel bad for Cirie” segment. My gut says it’s only setting up a great comeback.

Wow, Jenna is even pressuring Ozzy? What’s the point of that? All she’s doing is motivating Ozzy to save Cirie. Jenna should know better.

And Christian puts it into words: “Jenna is playing too hard, too fast.”

Wow, look at Emily trying to flip the vote to Ozzy. Could she actually be turning into a strong strategist?

The bad part about an all-returning player season is that it’s almost always a major bummer to see the first person go. I hated it when Tina (S8: All-Stars), Vytas (S31: Cambodia), Ciera (S34: Game Changers), and Natalie Anderson (S40: Winners at War) left. But I didn’t mind when Sugar left first from S20: Heroes vs. Villains.

Joe: “We should give everyone a clean slate.” Christian: “That’s not gonna happen. There’s too much history.” Yeah, Joe hasn’t evolved at all.

Tribal

Jenna is gone with at least five votes and she won’t even acknowledge Ozzy as she gets her torch. Hmm ... I wonder if Ozzy used his Extra Vote?

Nope, it was 7-1. Sorry, Jenna. This was a classic case of playing too hard too fast. Could Ozzy have actually swung this vote? It didn’t appear that Cirie saved herself.

Jenna snuffed

Genevieve finds an Advantage and immediately makes the classic mistake of telling someone.

Ok, it’s the Billie Eilish Boomerang Idol. I like this twist. Do you give it to someone you think will be voted out so you can get it back, or do you give it to someone you want to work with? Do all three tribes get one of these?

Genevieve's note

Genevieve wants to give it to Ozzy because he’s been blindsided with an Idol. But she eliminated Tiffany, who was also blindsided while holding an Idol. In Genevieve’s first season, I noticed how she regularly made moves that weren’t in her best interest (like blindsiding Kishan who wanted to work with her, and admitting her Idol was a phony). This decision depends on whether or not the recipient also knows all the conditions for this Idol. For example, if Ozzy knows Genevieve gets it back if he’s voted out, what would stop him from giving the Idol to one of his allies?

Ahh Ozzy can’t give it away. But he still doesn’t know it will return to whoever gave it to him. Also, take note of what this Idol looks like. It will be around a while.

Ozzy and his idol

Mike White, Colby and Savannah get on the boat. That’s your cue, Q.

What’s the point of sending a player if they have to turn right back around? Will Mike’s tribe suspect he’s got something if he returns so quickly?

This Tetris challenge is not very interesting to me. And I’m sick of seeing people lose their votes. I don’t think Colby is savvy enough to lie about it either.

Savannah and Colby, journey challenge

Savannah gets a Block A Vote. She didn’t know how to use an Extra Vote last season so I’m not so excited about her getting this one. It would have been better if someone like Cirie, Christian, Kamilla or Aubry got it. But they were all smart enough not to get on the boat.

Mike White exposes Coach’s BS, and Coach is upset about it. Come on Coach, you were starting off so well. You CAN’T win Survivor without lying. Embrace it. By now you should know most people don’t believe what you’re saying anyway.

And of course, Colby admits he lost his vote. I’m sure he thought it was “the right thing” to do. Colby is always big on “doing the right thing.”

Savannah addresses the tribe, then does the worst thing possible. She wanders off alone so they can all talk about how much she’s lying.

Beach Savannah

Crap. It’s 10:45 and Probst is in camp. Second boot is a medevac. There’s no time for a challenge. I’ve torn both of my Achilles tendons. Kyle will definitely tear it if he stays in the game. Any kind of running will do it. Even a sudden change of direction shifting your weight can do it.

Kyle, about to medevac

I feel bad for Kyle, but he realistically didn’t have a shot to go very far, no matter how well his social game was. He’d have been very lucky to make it to the merge.

Recap

It sucks how it happened, but Kamilla’s chances just got a lot better. Nobody is worried about Kamilla and Kyle teaming up again, including Joe.

Since the alliances on Kyle’s tribe weren’t tested, I wonder how this will affect the tribe? I thought Q would be a early vote because he’s so erratic, but they need his physical strength now. My guess is that Genevieve is probably in the most trouble.

There was a lot to take in during this 3-hour episode. When I think about it more, I’m sure I’ll have more questions to pose, but I’ve had a very long day, and I’m pretty fried. For now, I’m mostly wondering who swung the vote against Jenna. Did Ozzy convince people? Did Christian pushing for a consensus get it done? Joe and Savannah seemed like immovable objects on booting Cirie. Whoever made it happen is off to a pretty damn good start (I suspect it was Christian). What do you think? Let me know in the comments.
