Samoa post-Episode 4 challenges shown in previews |
From
the TV Guide Channel preview there are still a few glimpses of
props/sets
for challenges that have not appeared on the show so far. For
the most part, we can't tell in which episode they'll be featured
(although never too late for a challenge board shot, CBS!),
but we'll run through them here.

or beyond - props for other challenges |

Black-and-white balls |

Painted and assembled black-and-white balls
(giant purple ball in background) |

Tilting maze table ("Roll With It") |

Big yellow ball ("Roll With It") |
These props are shown in the TV Guide Channel preview show, during the interviews
with production designer Dan Munday and unit manager Paul Messer. Basically,
we see parts from at least two challenges: (1) The large colored balls and tilting
maze tables from the "Roll With It" challenge, which as EW.com reveals, is the
Ep6 RC (see below);
and (2) the columns of white-and-black painted turning balls (jumbo-sized tic-tac-toe?).
Not the most exciting batch, but there they are.

reward challenge - "Do
It Yourself" challenge: "Bocce in a Box" |
We were informed by email (from reader
CC) that Probst mentioned another challenge in his TV Guide magazine interview before
Ep1 aired. Here's the relevant text:
"Anything else new this season?
We're gonna have a “do it yourself” challenge where I don't show
up and they arrive and there's just a box sitting there. Watching what they think
it means and how they decide and when to investigate it and what happens afterwards
is pretty interesting and a little scary to me I might add because suddenly, “Maybe
we don't need a host! Maybe we can do Survivor without Mr. Probst!” "
Update: CBS revealed, in a late-breaking behind-the-scenes video, that this is
the Ep4 RC.

Reward Challenge: "Roll With It" |
As noted by hagiz1 at
Sucks and
SquidProQuo at
Blows, an article and video at
EW.com reveal the big yellow and purple balls, and the tilting
maze tables in the production shots above are all from a challenge
scheduled to air on 10/22, which would be Ep6. Dalton
Ross's
tease:
"While we're on the subject of challenges, I'm burying a super-secret
special nugget for you fans right here: An exclusive look at
an upcoming Survivor: Samoa challenge! The challenge is called
''Roll With It'' and will appear in the October 22 episode. To
get the first ever sneak peak and see Jeff Probst and challenge
producer John Kirhoffer conduct a rehearsal of this head-spinning
competition, click right here. Watch it and find out which former
Survivor favorite has a niece now working for the show testing
out challenges!"
The final version of the challenge, shown here being test-blocked
by the Dream Team, involves one contestant being strapped inside
the giant ball, with two other (blindfolded!) contestants pushing
it. So the rolling person has to shout directions to her tribemates.
After rolling a brief distance, they reach a tilting maze table,
in which the (still strapped into the ball) non-blindfolded contestant
must then guide the rollers and two more blindfolded tribemates
in navigating a ball into a hole in the maze.
