January 26, 2006: CBSNews video of
a pre-game press roundtable discussion about Cirie, led by
Jeff Probst, with Mara Reinstein (US Weekly), Paul Adler (TV
Guide channel), Shawna Malcom (TV Guide), Dalton Ross (EW),
Jarett Wieselman (In Touch). Transcript:
Jeff
Probst: Let's talk about Cirie,
one of my all-time, already, favorite Survivor contestants.
Cirie (pre-game interview): I'm Cirie,
I'm 35 years old, I'm married. I am a registered nurse.
Shawna Malcom: She's just
effervescent. She has so much energy. She walks into
a room and it just lights up. And her enthusiasm for
the game is incredible. I couldn't believe, you know,
she's so excited to be here.
Paul Adler: And man,
does she have the hots for you, Jeff. Whoo! She went
on and on.
Jeff Probst: You know
what I like about Cirie is that, for me, she represents every
person who's ever been at home and said, 'Gah, you know
I'd like to do Survivor.'
But never get up off the couch.
Cirie (pre-game interview): My life
is boring! I just, uh, work, come home and take care
of the kids and watch TV. I do! I'm sorry! That is
really all I do.
Jeff Probst: Cirie
is the most unlikely candidate to ever make it on the
show, but she did. She applied, and her personality and
enthusiasm won us over, and she's on. How well will she
do? I actually think she'll do all right.
Shawna Malcom: I think so too, because
she showed determination. You know, she was told she
had to lose weight, in order to be on the show, and she
did it. She stuck to it. She started working out, and changed
her diet, and she looks great.
Jeff Probst: I'm hoping that when you
guys have met her, that a little bit of the nervousness
is gone. Is it?
Jarett Wieselman: It
was, it definitely was. She was very excited, and
like ready to go. I think the thing with Cirie, that
will get her far in the game, is that she can sort of
take on that motherly figure.
Cirie (pre-game, still): I want to be...
everything to this group. I want to be like the hot mama,
want to be the hot nurse, I want to be the hot cook. I just
want to be hot, really!
Jarett Wieselman: She even admits herself
that she's not gonna be great at the challenges. But
you know, when it comes to the mental stuff, she's ready.
I mean she's very intelligent. She knows what she's doing,
having raised you know, three kids, like she can keep
people in line, she can let 'em do what she wants. If
she can align herself with some stronger people who will
bring her further in terms of competition, I think she
has a really good chance.
Mara Reinstein: The other women I asked
about, I mean, when I asked them about Cirie, this came
out right away, that they could just tell that she has
a great personality and would be fun to have around.
That's just total body language, and not even talking
to her.
Dalton Ross: Yeah,
you've got to play what card you have and I think that's
her card. And so she's gotta play that card. And you
know, like, 'I've got to make connections somehow with
these people, so if I'm not holding up my end in the
challenge, I can give them another reason to keep me
around.'
Paul Adler: She's
also a nurse, so that caregiver role, that really worked
for Margaret, a short time. And that really worked for
Margaret in Guatemala, you know, being able to take care
of people who are new to their environment, and were hurt,
and sick.
Jeff Probst: Well, Cirie seems to have,
and you kind of hit on it, that, that quality that you
can't manufacture, which is true likeability. You just
like her. And you actually would probably get rid of
somebody else, just 'cause you like Cirie. Whereas so
many other times in this game, you're getting rid of
somebody 'cause they're too likeable, meaning, they
might win this game. But there's not a true, soulful,
I just like you. I like what you represent. I think people
want Cirie to succeed. I think the audience is really
gonna pull for her.
Paul Adler: She'll
be very happy to hear you like her, Jeff. She went on
and on....

January 22, 2006: Transcript of Cirie-specific
footage from the TV Guide Channel " Survivor: Panama
- Exile Island Preview" (featuring pre-game contestant
interviews and Jeff Probst comments from circa Ep1):
"Danni Boatwright: Operating room nurse
Cirie will be living a very different life in Panama than
she does in her hometown, Jersey City.
Cirie (pre-game interview): I'm a couch
potato. And I wanted to do some things before I got too
old. I love this show, I want to just challenge myself,
and see how far I can make it. I think I can win.
Jeff Probst: Cirie represents everybody
who's ever sat at home and said, 'I could do that!' But
they never got up off the couch. Cirie got up off the
couch, and she's on the show. And I think her little
bubbliness is probably a bit of a mask for a player underneath,
who might be better than we think.
Cirie (pre-game interview): I'm cute and funny, but...
[mock threatening stare] Don't play. [laughs]."

January 10, 2006: Local press actually interview one of Cirie's
coworkers, rather than running verbatim AP copy:
"Walterboro nurse
earns chance to be 'Survivor'
Cirie Fields, an operating room nurse
from Walterboro, will be in a national TV spotlight when the
12th edition of Survivor debuts
at 9 p.m. Feb. 2 on WCSC-TV.
On Monday, CBS announced the 16
new contestants on the show, including Fields, 35, and Ruth
Marie Milliman, 48, of Greenville, director of retail leasing
at a shopping center.
Ann Jonason, director of nursing
at Colleton Medical Center, described Fields as an excellent
nurse and a delightful person with a big smile. 'We're thrilled
about it. We didn't know she was so talented,' Jonason
said.
Fields and her husband, Clarencio, recently
married, and she has three children from a previous marriage,
according to the show's Web site.
Contestants are not allowed to talk,
even with family, about what happens to them on the show until
after their fate on the program is publicly known. 'It's
all top secret,' Jonason
said.
Fields will be competing as a member of one
of four tribes - Older Men, Older Women, Younger Men and Younger
Women - in the show dubbed Survivor: Panama - Exile
Island.
At
least one castaway each episode will be banished to Exile Island,
which is miles away from camp. While being separated from the
tribe is not desirable, the castaways will learn that there
is a hidden immunity idol somewhere on Exile Island. If found,
this immunity idol could save an individual from being voted
out at a future Tribal Council.
Fields is not the first South
Carolina woman to compete on Survivor. JoAnna
Ward of Orangeburg was a contestant in Survivor:
The Amazon in 2003."

Cirie's bio, from the CBS Survivor:
Panama site:
Cirie Fields was born and raised
in Jersey City, New Jersey. She attended St. Francis
Nursing School in New Castle, Pennsylvania, where she
earned her nursing degree. She currently works as an
operating room nurse. Her previous occupations include
surgical technician, home health aid, working at a candy
factory and telemarketing. Fields' proudest accomplishment
was becoming a nurse. Her mother is her hero because
she raised six kids with nothing and taught her kids
many life skills.
Fields swims regularly. Her favorite
sports include running and working with a personal trainer.
She loves amusement park rides and watching television.
She describes herself as funny, charismatic and compassionate.
She believes she will be a useful member of the tribe
because she is very strong. Fields' skills include the
ability to fish, cook and do some carpentry. She believes
she will be the Sole Survivor because people love her
cute, smiling personality. Her primary motivation for
being on the show is to win and to change her family's
life. She is proud of the fact that she was disciplined
enough to lose 30 pounds once she learned she would be
a castaway on the show.
Fields currently resides in Walterboro, South
Carolina. She recently married Clarencio and has three
sons from a previous marriage. They have one dog, Sam.
Her birth date is July 18, 1970. |

January 7, 2006: MayanSun from
SurvivorFever.net reports receiving a tip that Cirie was the
long-rumored African-American nurse ChillOne mentioned as a
Survivor: Panama - Exile Island contestant. See also
SurvivorFever's contestant
page for Cirie.
"I've been working on a tip about the African American nurse.
Having a hard time finding out much but I'll throw the name
out there just in case....
I think it might be Cirie Tiffany
Fields. She's about 35 years old. She's married, a traveling
surgical nurse. Holds nursing licenses in several states
(an agency probably sends her out on temporary nursing jobs,
very nice pay for those types of jobs).
She's supposedly a big reality tv fan and
had always talked about trying out for the show.
I was told that she worked
out all summer and practiced swimming techniques, was away
during the filming timeframe, returned thinner but claimed
to have been taking care of her ill mother. (No other confirmation
if she was gone during filming).
"She has a colorful personality and is sure
to make it interesting."
I had checked for domain registerations
and there was never one registered. Bianca checked today
and she apparently registered www.ciriefields.com on Jan
7th." |

December, 2005 - January, 2006: A
rough outline of Cirie-related contestant rumors and research
done in the S12 contestant thread and ChillOne's spoiler thread
at Survivor Sucks:
- On November 28th, 2005, ChillOne starts
the wheels turning with this sentence: "The african
american girl, military guy, rasta
chick, and asian dude go
... into the game." (edited in deference to spoiler-phobic
sensibilities).
- December 5th , 2005 - An update
from ChillOne: "Black
Girl ... a nurse."
There are a number of other updates, but since they
all contain game-specific spoilers, we'll just point
you to the thread itself (link, above right), if you
want to read more. |
