'Down On The Waterfront' (which he co-produced, co-wrote
and starred in with Jason Alexander, Ed Asner and Mike Starr).
He also worked as an actor and had a series regular role

January 3, 2008: Entertainment
Weekly (mostly Dalton Ross) handles the cast-release
chores for Survivor: Micronesia. Included is Jonathan's pre-show
interview and Probst's comments:
"THE RETURNING FAVORITES: JONATHAN PENNER
AGE: 45
SEASON: Survivor: Cook Islands
JONATHAN SAYS: ''These are
serious players now,'' says Penner of the increased competition.
''There are no players with names like Chicken who are just
there to get blown up.''
JEFF
PROBST SAYS: ''Penner only plays to win. He's not interested
in third. He's not interested in second. And you saw that
at Cook Islands. And Penner is gold. At Tribal Council I
can just look at him and know that he's ready to light somebody
up. And Penner is the biggest complainer that we've had on
the show. He complains about every challenge, and I get a
kick out of it. I'm so happy he's on the show. And Penner
could win — absolutely. He's a smart dude, and I think
he probably learned a couple things in watching his season's
playback." |
September
4, 2006: Jonathan-related clips from TV Guide Channel's "Survivor:
Cook Islands Preview"
show:
Cirie Fields: "And finally, meet Jonathan."
Jonathan: "And some of these guys are obviously like super
workout psychos, you know, muscles on muscles. And if you have
nothing but muscle on you, well, that's all you can lose...
is muscle, you know. And it's gonna be more debilitating to
them, than to a fat old guy like me."
Probst: "Jonathan Penner is one of my favorites. Not necessarily
likeable - I hope he lasts a while. I think he'll create some
good stories."
Mark Burnett: "Jonathan Penner... is a uh, scriptwriter.
He's an Academy Award nominee! For short film!"
Jonathan: "If I have to get an obituary, that'll be...
it'll either be, 'Survivor contestant' or 'Oscar nominee.'
Maybe both! 'World's only Survivor contestant/ Oscar nominee,
Jonathan Penner... died'."

August 23, 2006: Officially revealed as a Survivor:
Cook Islands contestant on CBS's The Early Show.
From his official CBS bio:
"A native of New York, Jonathan Penner is an actor, having
had series regular roles on Grapevine, The Naked
Truth and Rude Awakening. He also made guest-starring
appearances in various series including CSI and The
Nanny, both on CBS, as well as Seinfeld and Arrested
Development. Additionally, he is a producer/writer/director.
Penner
attended the prestigious Phillips Andover prep school in
Andover, Massachusetts, and went on to receive his Bachelor
of Arts Degree from Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville,
New York. Penner enjoys reading, traveling, cooking, soccer
and baseball.
He is most proud of his family and his 1994 Oscar nomination
for Best Short Film, Live Action for 'Down on the Waterfront'
(which he co-produced, co-wrote and starred in with Jason Alexander,
Ed Asner and Mike Starr). In 2000, he also won the grand prize
at Cognac and the screenwriting prize at the Avignon Film Festival
for 'Let the Devil Wear Black.'
Penner currently resides in Los Angeles with
his wife of 15 years, director Stacy Title (who directed him
in the 1995 film 'The Last Supper'), and their two children,
Cooper and Ava. They have one bunny, Angel Cake, one cat, Vinnie,
and two lizards, Mozilla and Luna. His birth date is March
5, 1962"

July 4, 2006: As reported by Trixiego
at Survivor Sucks, Big Brother: All Stars contestant
Mike Boogie mentions during the BB live feeds that
Jonathan ("the husband of Stacy Title") is a contestant
on Survivor: Cook Islands:
"From BB All Stars (and obviously do not know
if this is valid or not)
According to Mike Boogie who is on All Stars
during the HOH competition said that a Jonathan Penner is on Cook
Islands (he is the husband of Stacy Title, the director
of The Last Supper?)
This is that dude if this is legit: [picture
of Jonathan]."
Tsk, tsk. Spoiling the cast like that, on CBS's dime, no less!
|
2004: While his nomination for an Oscar as
a co-producer of the short film Down on the Waterfront (1993)
is interesting, the most impressive part of Jonathan Penner's
resume is that he made a guest
appearance on one of the greatest shows ever, Arrested
Development.
In a stirring piece of acting, following
in the footsteps of other notable Season One guest-starring
luminaries such as Ed Helms (not to mention Kevin McDonald,
who is in the same episode), Penner plays "Detective Fallows" in
the "Not Without My Daughter" episode.
We recommend watching this episode over and over, instead
of Survivor: Cook Islands. Your mileage may vary.
