January
12, 2007: Michelle's official bio, from the CBS
S14 site...
"Raised in Cincinnati, Michelle
Yi is in her final year at the University of Cincinnati where
she is studying fashion design at their college of Design,
Architecture, Art and Planning (DAAP).
Yi enjoys fashion photography,
traveling and is an avid and competitive rock climber. She
enjoys 80s pop music, drinking Eddie James, pirates, things
that are green and video games prefaced with the name Mario.
Yi admits she likes to eat--everything from Korean BBQ to Cincinnati
Skyline Chili, with a particular weakness for ice cream and
sushi. To complement her love for food, Yi practices yoga,
lifts weights and trains for climbing. She's not a big fan
of cardio workouts, but does it anyway because she believes
it builds character and prevents heart disease.
Yi describes
herself as very independent and is a true believer in following
one's passions and staying inspired. She thinks a positive
attitude will keep you smiling through anything. She believes
her bubbly and laid back personality allows her to enjoy most
people, but she claims if you rub her the wrong way, she'll
be sure you know it! Yi's hero is her mother, who lives in
Taipei, Taiwan.Yi hopes to continue to travel,
particularly to go "bouldering" in
New Zealand and to spend some time in her favorite hotspot,
Manhattan.
Yi currently resides in Cincinnati. Her birth
date is December 2, 1983."

8, 2007: We're
not sure weight loss counts for much these days (did Becky
lose any weight at all in Cook Islands?), but for what it's
worth, here's our comparison of Michelle's pre- and post-game
appearance:

December
17, 2006: Jeff Probst's voiceover from the Survivor:
Fiji preview (replete with actual contestant photos,
as far as we know) that aired during the Survivor:
Cook Islands reunion show:
"Coming in the new year... Survivor turns
the tables on two tribes, as one lives the life of luxury,
while the other is left with virtually nothing. For the first
time, there will be 19 new Survivors. This
diverse cast, with lifestyles ranging from a Harvard-educated
lawyer to a once-homeless street performer, will be
forced to battle each other more fiercely than ever before.
Crawling with thousands of deadly sea snakes, Exile Island
will be more treacherous than ever. This time, two
immunity idols and a twist will drastically complicate the
game. And one of the most controversial decisions ever
made by a Survivor will have America talking. Who will outwit,
outplay and outlast all the others? Join us next time, for
the premiere of Survivor: Fiji."

March 16, 2004: As a sophomore
in the fashion design program, Michelle's efforts are mentioned
in the University of Cincinnati school news (site has a picture
of Michelle modeling her garments):
"Thrift Fashions Make Cents for Students and Community
University
of Cincinnati fashion design sophomores recently received an
assignment tailor made for fun. They were to spare every expense
in retrofitting thrift-store bargains from the Society of St.
Vincent de Paul’s local stores
into new designs and garments.
Led by Margaret Schroeder,
assistant professor of design, and Mary
Wright, adjunct instructor of design, the
students were each given a $15 voucher
to purchase anything sewable – bed
sheets, drapes, shower curtains, napkins, tablecloths and
old clothes – and to redesign them into something fashionably
new. The students previewed their garments yesterday in UC’s
College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning and will
next exhibit them during a St. Vincent de Paul-sponsored
fashion show Oct. 14, at the 20th Century Theater in Oakley.
For the students, the idea behind the assignment
is to help them see with new eyes and to provide a chance
for and the challenge of using some nontraditional materials
within the design process, explained Schroeder. Students
explore their creativity and show their individual personalities
by coming up with an idea. They then have to figure out how
to make it real, she added.
'It is a design challenge,' agreed
student Michelle Yi of Anderson Township. 'I transformed
a large blazer into a simple, elegant dress, but I kept thinking,
what if I make a mistake and I don’t have enough material?
It’s not like I can go out and buy another yard of
this material. It’s unique. If I run out, I’m
out of luck.'"
