January 16, 2007: Gets written up in the
local paper, the Wilmington (NC) Star News (excerpts):
"Port City man to compete on latest Survivor season
Does living on the streets of Wilmington
make someone tough enough to win at Survivor? The world will
find out when Survivor: Fiji, the 14th season of the CBS
reality TV series, premieres Feb. 8.
One of the 19 contestants
is 25-year-old Wilmington cheerleading coach Andria 'Dre'
Herd. Contestants aren't allowed to talk to the media until
after they are voted off or win, but the CBS Web site interviews
reveal a man who is already proud of surviving - in the real
world.
...
Now, Herd teaches
cheerleading for the Universal Cheerleaders Association,
which provides training for college and high school cheerleaders
through summer camps and clinics. 'He's
definitely got a unique sense about himself,' said
UCA regional manager Ransome Harper. She's worked with Herd
for the past several summers traveling the Southeast, teaching
cheerleading to students. 'Everybody
loves him; he's got a great personality. He's
overcome a lot in his life, so that will really help.'
Family
is important to Herd. He has two sons, Giovanni, 2, and Luca,
1 month. And he's training at his brother's gym to become
a boxer. Contacted at home, one of Herd's brothers, Adrian,
declined comment.
Herd will be up against a variety of other
contestants who have doctorates, martial arts experience
or years in the military. But he's not afraid, and he's got
plenty of strategy...."

12, 2007: Dre's official bio, from the CBS
S14 site...
"Growing up homeless in the projects
of Wilmington, North Carolina, Andria 'Dre' Herd spent
most of his childhood trying to keep his family together and
alive. He slept on the streets, ate at soup kitchens and was
able to survive by becoming a street performer with his brothers.
In high school, Herd began playing sports and quickly became
an athletic superstar, excelling in cheerleading.
Herd spends
his summers teaching cheerleading for the Universal Cheerleading
Association. He also is training to be a boxer at the gym owned
by his brother. Herd enjoys boxing, basketball, tumbling and
stunting. He is very proud to have obtained his Associate's
Degree from Cape Fear Community College.
Herd
describes himself as humorous, energetic and intelligent.
Describing his perfect day, he says, 'When everybody
is happy all day... that's a perfect day.'
Herd continues
to reside in Wilmington, North Carolina. He is a proud father
to his two-year-old son, Giovanni, and his one-month-old
son, Luca. His birth date is December 15, 1981."

December
17, 2006: Jeff Probst's voiceover from the Survivor:
Fiji preview (replete with actual contestant photos,
as far as we know) that aired during the Survivor:
Cook Islands reunion show:
"Coming in the new year... Survivor turns
the tables on two tribes, as one lives the life of luxury,
while the other is left with virtually nothing. For the first
time, there will be 19 new Survivors. This
diverse cast, with lifestyles ranging from a Harvard-educated
lawyer to a once-homeless street performer, will be
forced to battle each other more fiercely than ever before.
Crawling with thousands of deadly sea snakes, Exile Island
will be more treacherous than ever. This time, two
immunity idols and a twist will drastically complicate the
game. And one of the most controversial decisions ever
made by a Survivor will have America talking. Who will outwit,
outplay and outlast all the others? Join us next time, for
the premiere of Survivor: Fiji."
