August 23, 2006: Officially revealed as a Survivor: Cook Islands contestant on CBS's The Early Show. From his official CBS bio:

"Brad Virata was raised in the small town of Oak Harbor, Washington, just outside of Seattle. The youngest of five children, he excelled at track, football and volleyball during his teenage years.

Virata received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in international communications from the University of Washington and was an active member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. Shortly after graduation, Virata traveled throughout Europe and Asia working as a model. He then moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in fashion and attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. He began working in couture clothing sales and clothing design merchandising for Guess? Men's Division. He spent five years with the company and helped launch the clothing line 'Los Angeles Denim Atelier.' He currently works as the Director of Men's Merchandising for Lucky Brand Jeans.
Virata is an avid beach volleyball player and surfer. His hobbies include weight training, running, rollerblading, power yoga, beach volleyball and international travel. He is most proud of giving back to his community through work with organizations such as AIDS Project Los Angeles, Project Angel Food, Starlight Foundation and the Big Brothers Program of Los Angeles.

November 21, 1996: A collegiate Brad gets quoted in his student newspaper, following a police crackdown on annual violence toward his fraternity's (TKE) house at the University of Washington:

A violent fraternity tradition was curtailed Tuesday night. UW police officers arrived in front of Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) and prevented a volatile snowball standoff from erupting into complete mayhem.
A large group composed of members of many different fraternities had gathered across the street from the TKE house. They were armed with snowballs and appeared ready to continue the five- to six-year tradition of knocking out the windows of the TKE house to celebrate the first snowfall of the year....
'Rivalry between houses is all right,' said Brad Virata, a sophomore pre-arts and sciences major and a TKE, 'but sometimes it gets taken a bit too far, like when someone gets hit in the face with a cue ball.'
In the past two years, cue balls have caused serious injuries. Last year a girl in the TKE dining room was seriously cut on her leg when a cue ball crashed through a window, and the year before that, a TKE fraternity brother was hit on the head when a cue ball crashed through a bedroom window."
