August 20 , 2007: Jeff Probst's comments
(made sometime during the game), as told to Ileane Rudolph
of TV Guide, in their barely pre-cast reveal article:
"Jeff's take: Being a Christian-radio
host can hurt you if your religious beliefs come ahead of making
decisions in this game — say, you can't lie to somebody
because of your faith. On the other hand, people might trust
you and you could pull the wool over their eyes."

August 20, 2007: Officially revealed as a Survivor:
China contestant by CBS, as the cast is unceremoniously
dumped onto the CBS web site. From her official
CBS bio:
"Leslie
Nease's stepfather was a United States Marine, so she traveled
with her family all over the world. She attended and graduated
from Kubasaki High School in Okinawa, Japan. Moving back
to the United States, Nease attended two years of college
at Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, West Virginia.
Nease currently works as a Christian host
for a midmorning radio show. She is on the air from 9
am until noon, and then spends the rest of her day being
mom to her four kids, Stephanie, Tommy, Kennedy and Peyton.
She also teaches fitness classes three nights a week
(step, kickboxing, sculpt and cycle) and has her own
speaking ministry where she encourages others in their
faith. She has written a book about fitness & spirituality
called Body Builders. She has previously worked as a
personal trainer and waitress.
Nease's
hobbies include reading and studying scripture, writing
poetry, yard sales and camping with her family. Her favorite
sport is volleyball. She describes herself as energetic,
passionate and overwhelming. Her favorite topics are
what she considers to be her 'Four Fs':
Faith, Family, Friends and Fitness. She was Mrs. North
Carolina in the Mrs. USA pageant in Las Vegas in August
2001. In March 2003, she was the first New York finalist
in the Regis & Kelly co-host search when Kelly went
on maternity leave. In April 2006, she went on a mission
trip to La Paz, Cochabamba and Santa Cruz, Bolivia, where
they spent most of their time outdoors in the Andes Mountains
visiting Compassion International-sponsored children
in underdeveloped areas.
Nease has auditioned for Survivor every season
for the past five years. She always wanted to experience Survivor for
herself and decided she wasn't giving up. She never let
the rejection get her down, but instead allowed it to
fuel her passion for the adventure. Finally, after 11
audition tapes, her dream is coming true.
Nease currently
resides in Tega Cay, South Carolina with her husband
of 18 years, Rod. They have one dog, Buddy. Her birth
date is March 25, 1969."

June 8, 2007: Enters a final pre-game post
in her 91.9 radio station blog :
"Dearest Friends,
What an awesome God we serve! I’m excited
to tell you that the Lord has opened some doors of opportunity
for me to serve this summer and as a result, I will be traveling
and will temporarily be unable to continue my position on the
radio until later this year.
I am so grateful to Joe Paulo, our station
manager, for allowing me some time off to pursue this. I realize
what a blessing it is to work with such a wonderful, supportive
ministry and how blessed I am to have such a wonderful “family” at
the station as well as a wonderful family at home!
I will tell you more when I return, but until
then, please just continue to pray for the ministry and for
my family – that
the Lord to be glorified in everything we say and do.
Have a wonderful summer and I’ll talk to you soon – be
blessed!"

2004: Leslie (a.k.a. "Leslie Nease, AFC")
publishes a religious/physical fitness book, entitled
"Body Builders." Sample excerpt:
"I've noticed a
lot of people use the term 'fat and happy' to describe
themselves when they feel like they are doing well in America.
This is another lie Satan is feeding us - that we need
to live the life of excess in order to be happy. "
(Seems slightly less technically oriented than her weight
loss article from Shape in
2002).

December 2, 2004: Leslie's various personal
battles are outlined in a lengthy advertisement for her Christian
morning radio show:
"Waking up: Leslie Nease’s
Story
New Life’s 91.9’s “Family Friendly Morning
Show” co-host on the peace of a truly changed life.
Monroe--- Leslie Nease has long loved waking
up to the voices of the birds outside. She never imagined
that someday thousands of people would wake up to her voice
every weekday morning on Charlotte’s New Life 91.9....
...Nease turned to fitness for meaning,
losing weight and getting into shape. “I thought that
I found my identity in myself again,” she said. “I
thought, now I’m somebody, but there’s still
something missing… so maybe I’ll run for Mrs.
North Carolina and see if that fixes it.”
She won the Mrs. North
Carolina title in 2001, but continued to lose her battle for self-worth....
...Nease used to wake up every morning,
an alcoholic struggling with her identity. These days, she
wakes up a child of God with a prayer on her lips. 'What
can I do? How can I serve You?' she prays. 'Lord,
just live through me today, speak through me, give me words,
give me opportunities to show Your love.' Now she’s
making up for lost time."
(Apparently, God is a huge fan of manufactured conflict
on faded, long-in-the-teeth reality TV shows).
