"Ashley's problem in winning is gonna be that she's got enough bite to irritate people. She may need a female alliance to get her to the end, I dunno, but I like Ashley to stay for a while."
CBS cast assessment video:
"Ashley. High hopes for Ashley, she was in the pageant world.... She's gonna be able to help her tribe in challenges. When you're a woman who's good in challenges and you contribute? Your chances for staying around, as long as you have men on your tribe, are very high."

From her EW photo caption:
"The former Miss USA competitor has a theory on why pageant girls have had success in this game before. 'Pageant girls are very strategic and very charismatic and I think you have to be likable in this game,' says Ashley .'I want to be likable and I want to build relationships with everybody. And through pageants you really have to work on that side of your personality.' She names Stephenie and Parvati as her favorite players. As for her least favorite? Surprise! It's Russell! 'He's a jerk and I know you can't be everybody's best friend. But he was nobody's friend. Let's be real.'"
From her official CBS bio page:
"Occupation: Nurse
Personal Claim to Fame: Spending time abroad in Switzerland, playing basketball professionally and competing in the Miss USA competition.
Pet Peeves: I have a million pet peeves. A few of them are 'know-it-alls,' lazy and unmotivated people, slow drivers or movers in general, people that 'chomp' when they chew their food, smokers' breath or just smoking period. The list goes on and on!
Survivor Contestant You Are Most Like: I'm not like anyone but myself.
Why you think you'll 'survive' Survivor: I'm strong, competitive, and athletic and I have the ability to think under pressure.
Reason why you think you will be the sole Survivor: I'm mentally and physically strong enough to do this. I will do whatever it takes to get ahead. I'm a leader, but also able to work well with others if it proves to be to my own advantage. I'm not afraid to be a game changer. Bring it on!"
Excerpt from a lengthy article on Ashley:
"It requires several hours of her week, but senior guard Ashley Underwood of the Maine women's basketball team knows the hard work and dedication she is putting in will help her in the near future. You may think the hard work and dedication she is putting in pertains to basketball, but actually, it pertains to her dream of being a nurse.
In addition to the long hours of practice, traveling and games, Underwood puts in several hours a week in her studies and nursing partnership at the Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, Maine."
